Client Case Study: Losing 21 Pounds And Surrendering Willpower

Client Case Study Surrendering Willpower Kat Rentas

Join me in this Client Case Study as I discuss how my client Naomi lost 21 pounds while surrendering willpower. Naomi, a successful real estate agent, loving wife, and mother to two teenage daughters, always seemed to have everything under control—except when it came to managing her weight.

Here’s what we’ll delve into today:

→ How Naomi shifted from micromanaging her diet to embracing naturally healthy eating habits

→ The pivotal changes that allowed Naomi to lose 21 pounds sustainably — without willpower

→ The impact of addressing unintentional overeating and stress-related snacking on weight loss

→ The role of regulating stress and healing burnout in enhancing weight loss results

Healthy eating doesn’t need to be micromanaged. Weight loss doesn’t need to require willpower. I hope hearing Naomi’s story inspires you to equip yourself with a method of healthy eating that prioritizes ease over hustle.

So I am excited to meet y’all here, to meet you on socials, wherever you like to hang out with me and fill you guys in on that new offer.

So okay, let’s get into this. Today’s content. And let’s just talk all about Naomi. So Naomi was my client who was a real estate agent. She was a wife, a mama to two teenage girls. I think they were about 14 to 15. So she had her hands full and she really had a very successful career. So she was single handedly providing for her family.

Her husband was retired and she had a very supportive

network of people around her. She had great friends, her family was very tight knit. And despite all of this, she constantly, in her words, felt like she was in this relentless tug of war with her weight. She just could not make it work. And to the [00:03:00] world, she really seemed to have it all together, like she could perform very highly, no matter the circumstances, where she was really

passionate about her job. She was very successful and underneath the surface, she was really struggling with her weight and she was constantly experiencing burnout because of the demands of work. So the thing about Naomi, like a lot of you I’m sure relate to her, she had a very strong ongoing interest in healthy living.

So this is where her hobbies resided. So she really at that time was focused on adopting a vegan diet. She regularly attended Orange Theory classes and Pilates and she had

what she called an aesthetically pleasing pantry. That was the definition of organized. So truly she seemed to have it all together to succeed with weight loss and healthy But when she came to me, She opened up about the fact [00:04:00] that the weight just wouldn’t budge, and it’s something she really struggled with for years.

So, just right away, I want those of you who relate to this to let that sink in that this is normal. If it looks like you have it all together on the surface, you’re doing the right things, your external environment is setting you up for success, but the weight loss isn’t happening.

So this is really where Naomi was at. And of course, right? She came to me feeling so much frustration and resentment for all the things she was doing, but it wasn’t producing the weight loss. And she felt confused because she was putting in all of this effort to make changes, but the numbers on the scale just weren’t going down.

So she came to me really, really committed on finding a weight loss solution for her that would truly stick. She wanted to change the She ate for life and ultimately she just really craves stability, certainty, and consistency with healthy eating because she was putting in a lot of wasted [00:05:00] hustle and effort with healthy living in general that just wasn’t creating the results she wanted.

And so we really dug into it with each client. I’m always looking out for your blind spots. That’s really what I am an expert in. When you work with me, it’s going to be a fast track to understanding why you’re stuck. That is what you will get access to. So with her right away, I was able to start understanding her reasons for her confusion concerning her lack of weight loss and what actually happened, which is honestly very relatable.

Is she was just totally unaware of her unintended overeating, stress eating, and unconscious snacking that was occurring in her life, which was what was ultimately preventing the weight loss. So additionally, the burnout in her job was making it even more difficult for her body to release the weight naturally.

So all of her results made sense. She was putting in a lot of effort and really setting her external environment up for success. [00:06:00] She was exercising, she had all the right foods at home. On the surface, it all looked like she was doing more than enough, but she was really still struggling with her eating habits.

The overeating, stress eating, snacking, that was preventing her weight loss. along with the stress because we cannot ever willpower our way to weight loss when stress is being put on the body. That is a big factor I teach and help you master. So I want to give you an idea of what Naomi focused on in my Own Your Eating Habits program.

So there were three main pillars that I broke down for you that she focused on to create 21 pounds lost. And what I’ll say first is when we talk about weight lost with this process, not all weight loss is created equal, right? So we can lose 21 pounds. Following food rules that we really don’t want to follow using a lot of willpower and energy and burning ourselves out, that will just lead to gaining the weight back.

And so that is non permanent weight [00:07:00] loss. I want you to consider 21 pounds lost that you will never gain back because you do it in a way that feels natural to you. It was created from a version of healthy eating that fits you and your preferences and your lifestyle so it’s not forced. This is what Naomi was able to accomplish with these three pillars that I’m going to share with you.

So the very first thing that she focused on was changing her focus with healthy eating. And so for her what this really required of her was to let go of obsessing with the micromanagement with healthy eating. So she was really, really focused on her environment being pretty and organized and perfectly set up as what created her success.

But that was a facade because that never actually created her weight loss. It just looked like her performing really, really highly. The first thing she needed to let go of was that micromanagement [00:08:00] and perfect performance with healthy eating and instead place her focus on building foundational skills of naturally healthy eating.

So I want to even just distinguish that right there. Right? Those are two entirely different focuses when you are focused on good performance with healthy eating versus building foundational skills. If you join me and my programs, you will build foundational skills. We do not place the focus on perfect performance, which that in itself can be a relief to know that you do not have to perform very, very highly to master these skills.

So just know that. So she made that switch, right? So she gave up the micromanagement, focused on building those skills, and the difference that occurred for her is she shifted from being interested in healthy living to becoming an example of a woman who lives a healthy lifestyle. So I’m going to say that again and then we’ll clarify.

She made the shift from [00:09:00] being interested in healthy living to becoming an example of a woman who So how this happened for her is when she was interested in healthy living, she was focused on her life externally looking like someone

who is healthy.

So this is when we’ll kind of feel like an imposter because externally it looks like we’re doing all the things, but we don’t have the result. And it’s because she was so focused on her external actions and environment. So Looking healthy rather than changing her internal behaviors, right? So I feel like I really relate to this.

I hope you guys relate to this. All the things you think you need to put in your calendar to be a healthy woman versus actually behaviorally being an example of that healthy woman. So for her, this looked like rather than prioritizing having the perfect pantry, she mastered regulating her emotions, so she had lower cravings.

Rather than focusing on creating the perfect [00:10:00] food plan, she focused on experiencing satisfaction during her meals. So, she lowered her urges. See that difference? So, I want you guys to think about what would change if you shifted the focus from being interested in healthy living to becoming an example of a woman who embodies a healthy lifestyle from that inside out, from your behaviors, from your thinking, from your being.

That’s the deeper foundational work. So, She changed her focus from micromanaging all the things to building skills. And so the second pillar for her, and this was the biggest skill that she mastered, was handling her work stress. Because as I mentioned, she was a real estate agent, Very successful. She had a lot of demands there.

And so what we needed her to do was acknowledge her burnout. She had to start actually making that an area of care that she nurtured daily. So again, right, rather than micromanaging the external environment, [00:11:00] And so it looked all perfect. She needed to start going inward and actually caring for her emotional state.

So this means that she started drawing clear boundaries with her work hours and not overworking. It meant that she actually started checking in on her emotions and regulating them each day. And this work, when she actually made it about her stress and not the external, allowed her to significantly lower her food cravings and increase her energy levels.

I want y’all to really hear me when I say this. You cannot lower your cravings and increase your energy by micromanaging your external environment. And I want to give this little disclaimer, I’m not saying to not do the things because if you know me, you know, I am the biggest fan of the external pretty things.

I love going to a yoga class, a Pilates class, having an organized pantry. That is totally I just don’t want you to have expectations of doing those things that that is what solves this problem, [00:12:00] right? You can have those things, but to solve this problem, we’re going to have to focus on the foundational work.

And in order to lower your cravings, you need to learn to heal your stress, which is what she was so willing to do. And she did it really beautifully by just prioritizing it with the skills. So, Cravings have gone down for her. Her energy levels are coming back. She’s not feeling the need to micromanage things externally quite as hard.

And she’s building the skills of naturally healthy eating.

So here was the last really big pillar for her. And this is going to apply to so many of you is we needed her to stay really clear on where she was at in her progress with weight loss. So if you remember in the beginning when she came to me, she was kind of blocking out the fact that her weight results made sense, right?

And this is really valid. This is what I’m here to help you guys become aware of. Naomi was just not seeing that her weight results were [00:13:00] happening because of the way she was behaving with food. So what we needed her to do to solve this problem is to make a pact with herself to stay clear about her weight results at all times.

So for her, this meant regular check ins and evaluations to ensure that she was maintaining responsibility with how her eating habits created results. And in doing this, she learned how to be intentional with healthy eating without moving into hypervigilance or hustle. So what I want you guys to know is When you’re struggling in this area, it can feel a little black and white, where you’re either hypervigilant about where your weight is at or you don’t focus on it at all because the hypervigilance feels pressuring and punishing.

What I want you guys to know is we want to help you find a healthy middle where you can acknowledge responsibility over your eating habits and your weight. You can acknowledge that it’s happening for a reason and you know why it’s happening, but that [00:14:00] doesn’t mean you crack the whip with yourself and you add pressure.

where you burn yourself out. This is a healing process that sometimes takes a little bit of time when a client enters my space or they enter my programs. I’m always looking out for where you’re at in terms of setting a weight loss goal and holding yourself to that standard. The big point of healing that will happen for you when you enter my space is that you will no longer equate taking responsibility as a Pressure or self punishment, it will feel safe to you and empowering to acknowledge that you are in control of the way you eat and your weight loss.

That is something that will no longer feel Shameful, it’s something that will feel empowering and calming to you to maintain that responsibility. So that was a big focus for her, right? Is helping her become fully responsible and aware of how she created her weight results at all times without that pressure and without that shame.

So I hope that makes sense. And as mentioned, in [00:15:00] six months, naomi lost 28 pounds and this really was from her shifting the focus from micromanagement with food to naturally healthy eating. She was really committed to building those skills and this means that she really taught herself how to create this result in her life by giving up willpower because she was so focused on trying to force her external environment into place.

The action she took with exercise and with stocking her fridge, with planning all the things, and she put in a lot of willpower and energy to do that. And when she came to me, it was her willing to lean back and actually just give herself the time and space she needed to master foundational skills. And so,

That also allowed her to set boundaries with her career, work regular hours.

She also, I remember, stopped using exercise and food organization as a way to Force healthy living and instead just started doing [00:16:00] those things because she wanted to. So once she was able to lose the weight and eat healthy without depending on those things, then those things could just add value to her life without pressure.

She really was such an example of embodying healthy habits without hustle and watching her go through that process and heal was so, so lovely. And

I’m hoping that somewhere here you can resonate with Naomi’s journey. And if you are ready for your own shift in a way that will look like your journey and it makes sense for you, you want to get into my coaching space y’all. You will learn the tools to solve this problem for the last time in a way that feels sustainable, heals stress, gives you everything you need to create the results you want. So don’t forget to look out for that announcement on Monday. It will apply to all of you and I will be so excited to share more then.

Alright my friends, have a great rest of your day and I will talk to you soon.
