The Confidence to Eat Healthy

You have a “good day” with food. You eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re full, and don’t raid the fridge before bed. For a moment, you feel proud.

But soon after? The unsettling hope sneaks in. You think: “I hope I can keep this up. I hope I don’t mess it up tomorrow. I hope I can stick to this long-term.”

That little voice might feel motivating at first, but it’s really doubt in disguise. And when the scale eventually stalls or you slip up, that turns into feelings of total failure.

The problem isn’t your food choices. It’s the way you’re tying your confidence to perfection with healthy eating.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

→ Why “hoping you can keep it up” keeps you stuck in self-doubt with healthy eating→ The difference between fake confidence (perfect days) and real confidence (self-trust)→ How to parent yourself through food mistakes without spiraling→ A mindset shift that will make consistency simple instead of something you have to hustle

Confidence to eat healthy isn’t about never falling off track. It’s about knowing you can keep making progress and moving forward — no matter what setbacks occur.

Episode Transcript

Hello, my friends. Welcome back to the Healthy Eating for Busy Women podcast. I’m really excited to talk to you today, and we’re going to talk about the confidence to eat healthy. And we’re not gonna talk about surface level confidence where you just feel […0.5s] really good all the time and you constantly feel like taking action. And it’s this fairy tale unicorn land that you feel like you’ll never get to. I wanna talk about how you can create actual root level confidence in your body with healthy eating today, no matter where you are starting from. Because this is something that any of us can do. And we’re gonna make it really accessible. But if you’re new here, quick introduction, my name is Kat.I have spent the last 7 to 8 years or so helping women create naturally healthy eating habits. So if that sounds like your jam, you are in the right place. And […0.4s] this podcast really is not about Pep talks and you just listening to an episode and then going about your way. I really want you to solve this problem for the last time. I have really made it my mission to stop bubbling and healthy eating and weight loss. And I want you to solve this problem permanently. So if you are game for that, I am here to help you solve this problem for that last time. But in terms of confidence, let’s get right into it. I want to paint a picture of something that comes up with my clients a lot and you probably relate. So here’s what happens. You finally have a good day with food, maybe you lose some weight, whatever it is. So you make healthy choices, you honored your fullness, you follow a plan and you didn’t go off the rails. Now what comes up next when you see evidence that things are working for you? Hope, […0.5s] the emotion of feeling hopeful, so a lot of the time, this is when clients will have this type of language with me. I hope I can keep this up.I hope I don’t mess this up, and I hope I finally stay on track this time […0.4s] now. Here’s what I want you to know about the emotion of hope. And I promise this is going to relate to confidence. Hope is actually doubt […0.5s] in disguise. So hope the emotion of hope is dealt with glitter on it. So if you are thinking, I hope I can keep this up, what you’re really thinking is I don’t think I can keep this up. If you’re thinking, I hope this all works out, what you’re really thinking is I don’t really think this is gonna work out.And I want you to consider this hope or feeling hopeful about the changes you wanna make with healthy eating. And weight loss is not a stable experience of it.It is the voice of the child part of your brain whispering things like, oh, this was probably a fluke. I don’t know if I can actually do it again. What if I mess it up tomorrow? That is what’s going on, doubt is now on the table, and then you have this other part of your brain that feels a lot of pressure, and it’s like, well, you should be doing this every day, you should be doing this perfectly, you missed the Mark last time. What’s wrong with you. You need to do this better, and now […0.4s] you don’t have access to confidence anymore. You do not feel confident that healthy eating and weight loss is something that you can sustainably create in your life. And so this is what I want to help you solve for. I want you to know what real confidence with healthy eating and weight loss is because it is necessary to get you where you want to go long term. Confidence isn’t executing things perfectly and doing it right all the time.Confidence is not meeting your expectations for how things should go with healthy eating weight loss. And confidence is also not constantly feeling like doing the things you need to do. It’s not always feeling motivated. Here’s what confidence is. Confidence is believing you can master naturally healthy eating and weight loss even if you mess up.That’s what confidence is. It’s trusting that you’ll parent yourself through human error and that you’ll keep showing up even when you have a setback. And it’s knowing that you do not need to be perfect to start creating the results you want.If you are not there yet, that is why you do not have the eating habits you want to have. And there’s nothing wrong with this. I promise I started out exactly where you’re at right now, but I want to help you fill this gap so you can establish stable confidence right now. Because you are not trying to become someone who never misses the Mark or who never has setbacks. You’re becoming someone who keeps showing up with healthy eating and weight loss even when you have setback. So I want to bring a visual analogy into this because y’all know I love my analogies and I can’t help myself, but I also think it makes […0.5s] the points I’m offering here accessible. So imagine that you’re pouring a glass of water. So a confident person […0.5s] doesn’t pour a glass of water perfectly every time they miss the glass, sometimes things happen, whatever they’re human. A confident person pours water, misses the glass, shrugs maybe, and then pours again. No shame, no story about why they did that. They weren’t capable, that they shouldn’t have done that, that they messed up. They just keep pouring the glass of water. That’s it. And here’s what’s happening with healthy eating right now. If the child part of you misses the class, let’s say […0.5s] the child part says, see, I knew I couldn’t do this. I knew I would mess this up, I don’t have it together. And then if you miss the glass, there’s a pressured part of you that says, see, you should have gotten it perfect. This is unacceptable. And you feel pressure to do it better next time and to never miss the class. Now there is a stable part of you that has this confidence, that has a capacity to believe, […0.5s] I am human.Let’s clean up the water and do it again. Because confidence doesn’t mean I will never fail. You are going to fail. You are going to have setbacks. In fact, that’s how you’re going to become really skilled at healthy eating and permanent weight loss […0.5s] confidence means I don’t make failing mean anything about who I am. And I want you guys to come back to this analogy of pouring a glass of water.Imagine if every time we missed a glass of water, it’s silly to imagine this. We really think this means something about me. It means something that I didn’t pour it correctly in the glass. And we can never pour a glass of water again, because we need to make sure we get it right every time. And by the way, this is why so many of you endlessly research healthy eating and weight loss before you ever solve this problem.Because you just wanna make sure you don’t miss the glass, because of how horribly you think about yourself when you do miss the glass, when really what you need to be doing is just pouring some more glasses of water.See what I’m saying? We do not need to prevent you from missing the glass of water. We just need to keep you as a person who pours glasses of water, so you can get the liquid in the glass more and more as you go along. This is having confidence around healthy eating. And we wanna remember confidence is not about knowing you’ll get the water in the glass every time. It’s about knowing you’re someone who can pour a glass of water, because if you miss the glass, it doesn’t mean anything about you.Now here is why this really matters for healthy eating. If you build your identity with healthy eating around performance or getting the liquid in the glass every single time without fail, you will keep chasing perfection with healthy eating. And that’s what you’ll solve for you’re gonna beat yourself up every time you’re eating habits don’t look perfect or your weight loss. And then eventually you’re gonna stop trying all together because the pressure is too high, your expectations are unreachable. When you build your healthy eating identity around self trust and parenting and actual confidence, you’re going to stop bracing for impact. You’re going to stop waiting for the other shoe to drop. You’re going to stop having concerns about you falling off track, and you’re gonna stop needing to earn your results with perfection, because that is not how results are created. Results happen from continuous action, not doing it right every time. When you develop this experience of healthy eating, you can show up more consistently than ever, not because of willpower, but because you’re holding yourself in a high regard as you do so. So here are the main skills that will create confidence with healthy eating. I’m gonna go through these one at a time.First, you want to start processing your emotions rather than reacting to them. So when you feel doubt, when you feel helplessness overwhelm stress, because you missed the class of water, because you had a setback instead of sabotaging and never showing up again, you’re going to pause, […0.4s] notice those emotions, sit with them and parent yourself properly instead of spiraling. You’re going to become aware of where you’re making it personal that you miss the glass of water, or you over ate, or you emotionally ate and didn’t eat healthy. Rather than assuming the worst and not showing up at all.[…0.5s] No. 2. You’re no longer gonna solve her. You’re no longer going to solve for perfection. You’re going to solve for skill building. So these are very different focuses. When you’re solving for perfection with the analogy, you are solving for never missing the glass as if that is an issue. Solving for skill building is solving for pouring the glass of water. These sound like the same things. They are not, because when you try and solve for perfection with pouring the glass of water, here’s what you do. You do not pour the glass of water until you are 100% sure you’re gonna get it right. And this is why so many of you are consuming so much information about healthy eating and not solving this problem, cause you’re waiting to be sure that you’ll do it perfectly and never mess up.This is what’s actually keeping you stuck. This is why so many of you are waiting to join my program, or you’re waiting to really get the coaching you need. And you’re not, because you think you need to wait until you’re sure you won’t mess this up.Don’t solve for never missing the glass of water, begin pouring the glass of water and solve for the skills, right. This is the same thing with healthy eating. The goal isn’t to do it right every time. We just need you showing up and actively getting in the arena and building these skills. No. 3, I want you to stop identifying as someone who struggles in this area.So if you are showing up to a process, and you’re taking action and evaluating, you’re already doing it. You’re already building expertise, and you get to hold yourself in high regard. This happens with a lot of clients of, of mine. They come into my membership, and they think, I will feel more confident and hold myself in a higher regard when I’ve lost weight or when I stop over eating. And this isn’t what happens. They end up having the same brain when they create those results as when they started. So what I teach them really early on is to start holding themselves in a high regard […0.5s] first, so they show up differently, and they build confidence from the inside out with their eating habits. So in other words, confidence doesn’t come from pouring the glass of water correctly every time.It comes from holding yourself in the regard of a person who’s gonna continue pouring a glass of water even if you miss. And it comes from you believing that just because you miss, doesn’t mean you don’t know how to pour a glass of water.See what I mean, so hold yourself in a higher regard now, and practice that, and stop waiting for evidence that you will do it right. It’s not gonna happen. 4.I want you to practice letting success feel […0.5s] simple. And this is something I am going to say and I know it won’t be completely accessible to some of you right now. This is something that I work with my clients in my membership and in my processes.A lot of you are making success really hard because what you’re solving for is not actually the result you want.So let’s go back to the analogy. What you are solving for and why it’s complicated is you’re not solving for just pouring a glass of water. You’re solving for never missing the glass. You’re solving for your self doubts. You’re solving for the sad story you’re having around sometimes missing the glass. Let your success be simple and the results you want be simple. You just need to show up and build the skill of pouring the glass of water. You do not need more willpower. You do not need to constantly get it right. You don’t need all this discipline and motivation. You just need to start. So sometimes I like to say, let the solution be boring, let the work be boring, let the solution be that you just need to start building the skills, that’s it. And if that’s the place you’re in, join my membership, you will learn how to build those skills, and you will get everything you need. You are ready. Do not convince yourself that you are not ready, because you’re waiting to be perfect, that is making it complicated, that is a coping mechanism. Let your success be simple insolvable now. And here’s the really good thing about confidence, you guys. Confidence comes from your thoughts and the regard you hold yourself in, but it also perpetuates itself by you taking action, not by you getting it right every time, not from you overthinking or waiting until you’re ready.Confidence grows when you’re consistent in just showing up, you consistently evaluate, you consistently problem solved.I just had a client who lost 10 pounds without dieting, tracking, prepping, any of those things. She did it using the on your eating habits process, and her confidence has built so much in this area of her life. And what I want you guys to know is this client didn’t build confidence, cause she did it right the whole time.In fact, she had a lot of setbacks in the trial and error of figuring out what works for her. But the reason why she has so much confidence now after this 10 pound loss, and she’s gonna continue to lose weight, is because she never stopped showing up.She didn’t stop evaluating her progress and proving to herself that she is a woman who was going to continue to take action, regardless if she misses the glass or not.So if you’ve been struggling to believe you can eat healthy consistently and have the confidence to do that, let what I’m saying help you.Whatever area of this resonates with you, sit with that. And I want you to consider holding yourself in a higher regard now in how you’re showing up. You do not have to wait for evidence that you will 100% succeed and perform well in this area. You just need to start. So if you want to feel confident in your eating habits with a process, make sure you get inside the your eating habits membership.
