Maybe if you’re honest, a lot of your motivation around healthy eating and weight loss isn’t about the work.
It’s about the rush. The planning. The mental before-and-after. That moment where you see everything finally clicking into place with your health.
And then a few weeks later, the dopamine wears off and you’re left wondering why nothing has changed yet.
This episode is about that recurring pattern and why an instant-gratification mindset sneakily but effectively sabotages long-term results.
In this episode, you’ll learn:→ Why planning your goal can feel just as satisfying as achieving it→ How the “quick win” dopamine hit can diminish follow-through→ The difference between fantasizing about results and actually creating them→ What it looks like to approach weight loss with maturity instead of urgency
Because the truth is, your health transformation won’t look like a satisfying before-and-after montage. It’s a slow, mature build.
And the moment you stop rushing to results before the stable foundation exists is the moment things finally start working for you.

Hello, my dear friends, welcome back to the healthy eating for […0.6s] busy women podcast. My name is kat. I’m so happy you’re here. If you’re new, thank you for […0.6s] being here.I have spent the almost past decade helping women […0.5s] eat healthy more naturally in a way that works for them despite any busy scheduled they might have, any perfectionism, any type a tendencies. I think really the mission i have for this podcast and […0.4s] my coaching is to help you understand why despite all of the, taipei gifts you might have in other areas of your life, why […0.5s] healthy eating might not be working out for you. So i’m here to help you heal those behaviors. And this is gonna be a really great episode to start off with.If this is your first time […0.5s] here with me and even if you’ve been listening for a while or even from the beginning you’re an og, this is going to be a really great reset episode because we’re gonna talk about our instant gratification mentality. And let me tell you, even if this is a part of you that you think, there is always more to learn. I’m a constant student of my own brain and i’m always figuring out what makes it tick and how to work with it better. And so i really want to encourage you to have the same […0.7s] posture with self growth and your health because at the end of the day, our bodies are always changing, our brains are always adapting and there’s never gonna be […0.5s] a period at the end of the work when it comes to managing yourself and […0.6s] is a great thing. It means things can always get better. So i encourage you to come in to today’s episode with an open mind and a clean slate so we can start to nail down this part of your brain, this instant gratification part that is holding you back […0.5s] with healthy eating and weight loss.So it’s really funny because i was talking with a friend recently about […0.5s] instant gratification and that part of our brain just casual conversation, […0.5s] and i was telling her that when i was young, i had a very niche interest in those home improvement shows on hgtv and tlc. I thought they were so fun.And this was really the era when those shows started to come out, where […0.6s] it was a very quick overnight transformation of a home. Right? So my favorite, i couldn’t get enough of it was trading spaces.Do you guys remember that? Maybe, you’re a different generation, whether older or younger, and this isn’t something you know about, but basically what it is is […0.5s] two families trade spaces. So they trade homes for a day or two.It might even just have been a day, i don’t remember, […0.6s] but a very quick period of time were in that time a designer helps them make over the other family’s home. So they switch spaces, make over the home, and then they reveal it a couple of days […0.6s] later. And i got so much dopamine from this concept of in one thirty minute episode, you could take this, undecorated home that wasn’t beautiful into this fully organized decorated space. And you guys, i would create floor plans as a kid for my little bedroom. We got really nerdy with it, but it became this […0.4s] hyperfixation and this really previewed for me how my brain worked when it came to creating results.I wanted that dopamine that so many of you guys will relate to of planning, putting everything in its place mentally and then wanting that quick return. So many of us do this with our health goals, right? So we will […0.5s] estimate how much time it’ll take to lose the weight, we will track calories, we will think, if i can just logically understand everything and put it in a certain place, then it’s gonna happen. And that is exactly what the danger of […0.4s] this […0.5s] approach is. It’s that dopamine of metaphorically creating the four floor plan for your goal, […0.4s] right? And it’s gonna make you feel as if you’ve already accomplished it, and you’re gonna get a hit from that of dopamine, where you will come down from that hit eventually. And then say what the heck, where’s the finished space? Where’s the finished home?Where’s the weight loss? Alright, so we’re just gonna compare home improvement to weight loss today. And you’re gonna wonder […0.6s] what is it gonna take to get the result when i’m such an expert at planning and prepping […0.5s] properly. And this is such a type a struggle, so many of you are in without the results to show for it. And i was there too, and so i was talking about this with my friend.I shared this with her, and she introduced me to this man on […0.6s] social media somewhere called, his name is birch, and i asked her to give me his account name, and it’s billed with birch, in case you wanna look him up. And it’s this young man who, is building a home from scratch. And there were some people in the comment she was telling me about who say, oh my god, bert, what paint colors are you gonna choose? What are the cabinets gonna look like? How many bedrooms are you gonna have? When are you moving in? They want to […0.5s] see the finished product. And he’s like, guys, i just need to sit here and figure out the foundation of the home. We’re not even at that point yet where i can answer those questions. So i need to see what piping or plumbing needs to be put in place before i can even determine […0.6s] how many rooms i’m gonna have. And […0.4s] he’s really educating his audience on the structure that needs to happen. That’s gonna take months for him to build this house properly as it should. But you can see some people in the comments which raise hands.I would be this person or i would have been this person who says, hey, i just need it to be done.I just want to see. I can’t wait anymore. But he’s just calm. He’s clearly an expert in this area, and he has expertise, […0.6s] and he knows that he can only start with step one, move to step two […0.6s] and so forth and enjoy the process. Now the reason why i’m going in with this example here is, this is the opposite of what so many of you are doing with healing your bodies, your healthy eating and weight loss goals, and really doing this foundationally for the last time. You are approaching with an instant gratification mentality rather than an expert approach at what is going to build […0.5s] stable results or in burt’s case, a stable home that doesn’t fall apart. So what burt’s not doing is he’s not like, i just wanna get to the part […0.7s] where i decorate the home, right? That dopamine that you’re planning, in the planning process that gets you feeling like the homes already built, the weight is already lost. No, he’s like, you know what? Today […0.6s] i built just a bit of the siding, and this is exactly where i wanna be at for the bigger goal. This is good progress. I’m happy with that. It’s mature, it’s based on someone with expertise of how this result is actually created. And it’s not from his instant gratification, quick fix mindset, because, you guys, how quickly would the foundation of that home crumble. He’s just like, you know what, screw this foundation, i’m just gonna get it up so i can choose some paint colors, right. And i’m saying this to poke fun a little bit, but really, you guys, this is what happens when a lot of you are going about your weight loss journeys. And you really are […0.6s] getting a little bit lazy with the foundational work that’s necessary, and you’re only focusing on the return. And when i say we’re getting a little bit lazy, this is actually what our brains designed to do. This is not me judging you or, making that judgment calling ourselves, right.I want you guys to understand that you have a primitive brain that seeks efficiency and wants to conserve energy, right. And so this is by design that we look for the instant gratification. And that is why those types of weight loss results are what is sold to you on social media, […0.5s] everywhere. Because […0.5s] marketing knows that’s what we want. But what i want you to understand is you are wasting so much energy when you pick up quick fix instant gratification things and then put them back down only to go to another method months later when you don’t have the weight loss you What is going to give you a stable experience not only of […0.5s] having the results you want with weight loss, but creating them is taking this step by step in a very mature way, in a way that actually gets the foundational healing that you need to go through.[…0.5s] So really what i’m saying here is a lot of you are treating the health results you want like trading spaces. You’re treating it like an hgtv transformation show where […0.5s] you can create a floor plan you want, and you can blink and then in a thirty minute episode, you have your dream space. This is what in your mentality and in your […0.4s] body, you are feeling like your results are gonna be like. And i need you to understand that you are burnt, and you are building a home from scratch. There is no way around this. It is from scratch because you have a unique body with unique needs. And we need to do that work. And you’re gonna have a stable experience of your dream space when you go through that. But we cannot skip steps. And what this is gonna require from you is to position yourself from maturity […0.4s] and intentionality and patience with a weight loss goal. And i really want you to make a decision, even if you’re not perfect at it to not indulge in quicks, quick fix focuses in my membership on your eating habits. The thing that makes result so effective is it really is a community of incredible women who are devoted to this lifelong result. They are really coming in with the intentionality to heal at the deepest level. And that is the standard we have in our process. We’re leaving no stone left unturned. We’re doing deeper level healing where it’s not just about the weight losses. It’s about all or the other areas of life, right? And that’s really what i want you to create for yourself because it is going to be necessary really when we compare home improvement to weight loss and healing our health, it sounds kind of silly, but there are so many analogies with this that makes sense. Because […0.6s] really so many of you guys, it’s like you’re trying to pick out a paint color before building the foundation of a home when you skip emotional regulation. So this is a really big part […0.5s] of ending stress eating in your life, no longer emotionally eating. If you regulate your stress and master that skill, your cravings will be minimal. You will not have urges to stress, emotionally eat, and you will not be competing with those cravings to lose weight. But what’s so many of you are doing, also because you probably haven’t been taught, this is you’re going directly to picking the paint colors and saying, what’s my food plan? I just need to know what i need to eat. This is the equivalent of choosing those paint colors before building the foundation, right? And this is just a lack of understanding in health and wellness about how you actually get to the result of a naturally healthy eater. And there are so many foundational skills, not so many, but a few foundational skills you need to master in order to take the path of least […0.4s] resistance, right. And what i want you guys to know is, it is okay […0.5s] if you decide to build these foundational skills first, and you don’t feel like doing it. It brings up some frustration, and it feels kind of like this inner child having a tantrum that we need to parent a little bit.Because what i can tell you is none of my ladies who work with me, they want to do the foundational work and heal, but they don’t feel like it all the time, right?I can speak for myself too. I teach you guys this for a living, and i don’t always feel like taking the mature approach and regulating my stress when all i wanna do is plan for the results i want.Does that make sense what i mean? It’s just not skipping steps, and i wanna offer if you stop doing that, and you focus on the healing work and the foundation, you will never have to start over again with losing weight or healing your results with your body, […0.5s] right. So what i wanna get up today […0.5s] is you are going to need to meet yourself in the process of creating your dream body. And this is a lot like building a home. I want you to picture your body as your home. In this case, there are so many comparisons here. And the foundation of your home is gonna be regulating your stress at that skill building level. So those cravings can come down. So you will no longer have to compete with emotional urgency in changing your eating habits.Imagine if you could just change your eating habits without having any urges to lose control with food. This is why this is the first step in my process in my membership. You heal that. And then once you heal that, then maybe, the plumbing of the home at this point laying out.The plumbing is now healing your body cues. So after your cravings are minimal, you’re not feeling urgency with food anymore. Now your natural body cues are gonna start coming up because they’re healing. And they’re gonna be more obvious […0.5s] when your stress goes down. Your body cues become more finely attuned. And so now, the plumbings embrace you in place. You see, when you’re naturally hungry and full, and that’s working. And then maybe deciding where the rims are gonna go […0.5s] is making food decisions. And now you’re thinking about nutrition in a way that feels more clear, cause you’re not competing with, losing control with food and all these things. So then the nutrition doesn’t really matter.Do you guys see what i mean? I’m giving you a broad overview today, but i just want you to see this from this perspective, so you can stop wasting energy solving this problem. That is really what i am here to help you do is to realize that when you are going for this instant gratification mentality, what’s essentially happening when we compare it to building a home, is your building up a home that is so unstable, only for at a hint of, for it to come crashing down when the wind hits it, and then all of a sudden you have to start over. It’s time to build a stable experience of healthy eating and weight loss. And it’s really gonna be based on doing that deeper foundational work.So […0.5s] all in all, you guys, this was a more conversational episode today, but just be burnt, don’t be trading spaces, don’t be hgtv […0.4s] with your healthy eating and weight loss journey. I know this wasn’t the most […0.4s] tactical episode. It was more a broad overview of how you can see this area of your life. But i really want you to let this sink in in terms of the posture you’re having. Are you approaching this an area of your life that you just want to be done, or are you actually willing to enjoy the process? Slow down, take this step by step, so you can do it Alright, and if you wanna do this the right way, don’t forget make sure you get inside own your eating habits membership today.
